Why Capacity is the Best Place for Career Growth

by | Oct 14, 2021

We get it — Finding a new job is hard. It’s an even greater challenge to find a company that aligns with your morals, values, and overall benefit needs. Will I fit in with the company culture? Is this the right place to grow my career? What opportunities are available? These questions and many more may be spiraling throughout your head during the process. It’s important to take the time to find the right place to help you achieve optimal career growth.

Here at Capacity, we pride ourselves on having a dynamic, supportive culture. We believe that work should be fun, not something dreaded. Having a career at a startup is rewarding and exciting. Here are the main reasons why we love Capacity:

Open communication

Everyone at Capacity is here to help you succeed. It’s important to ask questions during your first several weeks, and your team is there to support you throughout the process. All Capacity employees use Slack to communicate. We encourage all employees to join various Slack channels to stay connected to co-workers. Jenny Fritz, Experience Manager, explains why Slack is so important and why she loves it:

“Slack is our main communication resource and helps everyone stay connected to each other. I actually have two favorite channels, bellringers and sandwich appreciation. It’s exciting for everyone across the company to celebrate newly-signed customers on our bellringers channel. As the Experience Manager, much of the work I do happens behind the scenes. I don’t have a direct hand in the sales process or the build of our platform, but I like to think that maybe, in some small way, the support I provided to those team members who were directly involved helped us gain that win.

The sandwich appreciation channel is a place to pay homage to that delicious hand-held treat containing meat or veggies nestled between two slices of bread, hamburger bun, pita or dare I say hot dog bun?  I laugh at the lively debates regarding what constitutes a sandwich and always appreciate the pics the team shares of sandwiches from local eateries.”

Community involvement

Capacity is partnered with several non-profit organizations, including its sister company, Create A Loop

“Create A Loop is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing computer science instruction to students in the Saint Louis Metropolitan area, including students who have little or no access to the field of computer science,” says Fritz. “I am always amazed at the generosity of our team and commitment to finding ways in which we can make a difference in our community.”

Other community outreach programs consist of holding school supply drives for local St. Louis schools and collecting items for the community around the holidays. Each year, Capacity employees come together and adopt 2-3 families through the St. Francis Community Services Adopt A Family program and provide gifts and household items for each family around the holiday season.

Amazing benefits

Being a Capacity employee has many perks, including working remote, unlimited PTO, 100% company paid healthcare options, and retirement savings.

Working Remote

Since the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic, Capacity has become a work remote company. We have the ability to work together in person at our St. Louis headquarters, as well as virtually from our home offices.

Unlimited PTO

Having a work-life balance helps to avoid burnout, which is why we believe in the importance of taking time off. Kate Bell, Talent Manager, explains why she thinks using PTO is vital:

“The answer is two-fold. One, it makes you better at your job. It frees you up for new thoughts and gives you the rest you need. But secondly, there is more than work!  The human connections in our lives are what drive us, whether it be family, friends or strangers at concerts. It’s important, especially in a remote work environment that we continue to foster those human connections that keep us grounded. Balance is key!”

Healthcare

Capacity offers 100% coverage of medical insurance premiums, including vision and short-term disability. There are also HSA plans available.

Retirement Savings

We recognize the importance of saving for retirement. After your first month at Capacity, you have the option to start putting funds in a 401(k). We hope to implement a company match in the near future.

Innovative career growth

Being a startup company, change is imminent. There are so many opportunities for career growth at a startup company. From exposure to new people and ideas to growing your career, a startup is a great place for opportunity.

“A startup environment spawns innovation,” explains Fritz. “It forces individual growth, both professionally and personally, and provides an opportunity to learn in a way that you can’t in a corporate enterprise. There’s something exciting about working in the early stages of a company and having a hand in building its foundation with some of the most talented people in the industry.”

Advice for new hires

Here are some pieces of advice from Kate and Jenny for all new Capacity employees:

“Take the time to invest in the people,” says Bell. “You will learn the product and the code base and the rhythms of the company. Attend all of the virtual events. Those connections will help you understand why Capacity is such a special place and also give you a way to be known!”

“One of the best things you can do is ask Capacity,” says Fritz. “It’s important for new hires to immediately become familiar with our platform and learn how our clients and their teams are using it.”

We wish you luck in your future endeavors and hope you find a place of work that furthers your career growth.
